"OPERA SLAVICA is a groundbreaking development for opera in America, and promises to bring undiscovered masterpieces to New York concertgoers."
-Marc Scorca, President and CEO, Opera America.
Spearheaded by Artistic Director William Hobbs, OPERA SLAVICA is a professional opera company and a young artist summer training program dedicated to Czech and Russian repertoire.
This season, in partnership with the Bohemian National Hall, OPERA SLAVICA presented a triumphant double bill of Tchaikovsky's last opera, IOLANTA, and the American Russian-language premiere of Prokofiev's first opera, MADDALENA, in performances "directed with spirit," and hailed for their "youthful excellent voices" and "stunning music and emotional vocalism."
Previous seasons have included a "wrenching performance" of Janacek’s JENUFA, productions of EUGENE ONEGIN and RUSALKA, as well as gala concerts at Merkin Hall and Broadway Presbyterian Church.
OPERA SLAVICA makes its home at the Bohemian National Hall in New York, with the generous cooperation of the Czech Center of New York.
